The ABCs of Mindfulness

Make mindful breathing a natural part of your day

Week 1 · Weekly Reflection

Stress reduction and improving your mood starts with catching yourself in the act of being human.

A tight jaw when you read an email.

A sigh in traffic.

A small spark of frustration when you’re interrupted.

Every time you notice one of these moments, count it as a win.
Smile if you can.

Awareness always comes first.

Once you notice a moment of tension, the breath follows naturally.
Curiosity takes over.

Before long, your body starts noticing for you.

That’s when mindfulness stops feeling like something you do
and starts becoming something you are.

Always Remember Your ABC's

Mindful breathing isn’t something you add to your day.
It’s something you return to.

A is for Awareness
Notice the first sign.
A tight jaw.
A shallow breath.
That subtle sense of bracing when stress shows up.

B is for Breath
Slow it down.
Let the breath deepen.
Let oxygen do the work and gently soften the body.

C is for Curiosity
As the tension eases, curiosity naturally appears.
You might find yourself wondering,
Is this really such a big deal?
Could I respond differently?

No forcing.
No fixing.

Just three simple steps that turn chaos into calm.

Awareness.
Breath.
Curiosity.

Week 2 · Weekly Reflection

So often we interrupt people mid-sentence.

Not because we don't care.
Not because we are rude.

We do this because our mind is racing ahead.

We know it isn't the right thing to do, but it feels right in the moment.

Then we learn the practice of Mindful Awareness.

And we begin catching the moment.
That subtle urge to jump in.
That tightening in the body that says, "say it now".

Instead of speaking, we take a little deeper breath.

And something shifts.

The breath softens the urgency.
The pause creates space.
And in that space, curiosity appears.

We stay with the person.
We listen.
We let them finish.

And our conversations change.

There's less edge.
More ease.
More connection.

Calmer.
More present.
Better.

That’s the ABCs in real life.

Awareness of the urge.
Breath to soften it.
Curiosity to stay open.

One breath can change the entire moment.

Week 3 · Weekly Reflection

Judgment might be the quietest habit we have.
And one of the heaviest.

It shows up before we even notice.
A thought forms.
An opinion lands.
A reaction fires.

My mind would compare everything to the past.
What I’d seen before.
What I expected.
What I thought should be happening.

The moment arrived…
And judgment arrived first.

When I first heard the phrase "beginner’s mindset", I thought it sounded unrealistic.
How do you undo a lifetime of reactions?

But I tried something simple.

I paused.
I took one breath.
I gently set the judgment down, and I looked again.

Not at what I thought was happening,
But at what was actually there.

At first, it took effort.
Then something surprising happened.

Clarity replaced assumption.
Patience replaced urgency.
Compassion replaced certainty.

Responding felt easier.
Lighter.
More human.

I’m still practicing.
But I know this for sure:

Life feels very different when you don’t carry judgment into every moment.

When you are able to look at each situation through a new lens.
